Gov. Kemp Announces Appointment of Interim State Accounting Officer
Atlanta, GA – Governor Brian P. Kemp has appointed Ms. Kris W. Martins as the Interim State Accounting Officer to replace the outgoing State Accounting Officer, Thomas Alan Skelton, who left state government to serve as the director of research and technical activities for the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, effective April 1. Kris W. Martins comes to the position as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and having served as Deputy State Accounting Officer for six years and as a State of Georgia employee for twelve. She will be the fourth appointed State Accounting Officer and the first female to serve in this capacity. In her former position, she was responsible for the State’s annual Budgetary Compliance Report (BCR) and the State’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) – a report that has earned the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award eight years in a row under her leadership. In addition, she has led the State in accounting policy and internal controls. Prior to joining the State of Georgia, Martins worked for Cingular, BellSouth, and AT&T in consolidations and financial reporting roles. Martins has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Miami University, Oxford, OH and is a CPA licensed in Georgia. She lives in the City of Atlanta and enjoys traveling to her family’s lake home in Minnesota. |
