Atlanta, GA – Today Governor Brian P. Kemp announced that he will appoint Rachelle L. Carnesale to the Atlanta Judicial Circuit Superior Court to fill the vacancy created by Judge Gail Tusan's recent retirement.

"Rachelle Carnesale's experience, temperament, and leadership style are ideal for the Atlanta Judicial Circuit Superior Court. As a successful prosecutor and fierce advocate for our most vulnerable, I know that Rachelle will lead by example and excel on the bench," said Governor Kemp. "I am excited to see the positive impact that she will make on her community in the years ahead."

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Emory University School of Law, Rachelle L. Carnesale is Chief Assistant District Attorney in the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit, serving as acting District Attorney as needed, managing day-to-day operations, and prosecuting complex felony matters, particularly child homicide cases. Previously, Carnesale served as Director of the Division of Family & Children Services, Acting Director of the Office of the Child Advocate, and Deputy Chief District Attorney in DeKalb County where she supervised the Crimes Against Children Unit. Carnesale lives in Fulton County with her husband, Keith, and two children. Her appointment to the Atlanta Judicial Circuit Superior Court is effective once she is sworn into office.
